2. Child Safe Environment Policy
The IEAC:
- believes that Children are a heritage from the Lord and should be cherished and nurtured: Jesus said, “Suffer little children, and forbid them not to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 19:14; Psalm 127:3)
- is committed to the safety and well-being of all Children at IEAC Functions (including SYP Activities, Combined Weekends, Combined Sunday School Picnics, and Australasian Christadelphian Youth Conferences held in Adelaide)
- supports the rights of the Child and will act without hesitation to ensure a Child-safe environment is maintained at all times
- supports the rights and well-being of the Supervisors who facilitate IEAC Functions, and encourages their active participation in building and maintaining a secure environment for all participants.
Accordingly, the IEAC will establish and maintain a Child-safe environment at IEAC Functions in compliance with scriptural principles and as legally required by the South Australian Children’s Protection Act 1993.
The Child-safe environment will be provided in accordance with agreed guidelines and procedures (refer to Section 3 of the Child Safe Environment Plan). These guidelines and procedures include measures to minimise and prevent Risk of Harm to Children (as identified in Section 1 of the Plan).
This Policy and associated guidelines and procedures will be communicated to all relevant Ecclesias and persons (refer to Section 4 of the Plan).
Adults and Children will be encouraged to adhere to an agreed code of conduct that specifies standards of conduct and care when dealing and interacting with Children (refer to Section 5 of the Plan).
Criminal history assessments (National Police Certificates) will be conducted and dealt with (refer to Sections 6 and 7 of the Plan).
Supervisors will be appointed, supported and trained to provide a Child-safe environment at IEAC Functions (refer to Sections 8, 9, 10 and 12 of the Plan).
Adults and Children can discuss or disclose abuse perpetrated at IEAC Functions or seek support and advice by contacting the IEAC Secretary or an SYP Host. A copy of the IEAC’s Child Safe Environment Plan can be obtained from the IEAC Secretary, an SYP Host, or Recorders of Ecclesias in South Australia.
The Child Safe Environment Plan will be reviewed, updated as necessary, and re-issued to all relevant Ecclesias and persons, at least once every three years.
