Introduction to your Resources

Welcome to the study page!

The study you’ve embarked on is going to be extraordinary; it’s going to be fun; it’s going to impact you personally as you see yourself move from oppression in Egypt to salvation at the Red Sea. Most importantly, you’ll stand in wonder of God as He reveals His covenant name. You’ll witness Him conquer the mightiest nation on earth with ease, bringing Pharaoh to his knees through the plagues and ultimately to his doom in the depths of the Red Sea. All this to deliver His beloved people from Egypt.

In your study you’ll follow these 8 sections:

Setting the Scene (Genesis)
Oppression (Exodus 1)
Saviour (Exodus 2)
Calling (Exodus 3:1-4:17)
Response (Exodus 4:18-7:6)
Wonders (Exodus 7:7-10:29)
Liberation (Exodus 11-13)
Victory (Exodus 14-15)

This is a big section to tackle, so we’ve provided some resources to help break it down.

Firstly, you’ve got your study book and workbook. If you like, you can work through your workbook question by question or study at your own pace. Your study book is a great resource if you’re stuck.

There are also many other great Christadelphian resources out there on Exodus 1-15. We’ve provided links to some below, in the READ section.

If you want some bite-sized audio chunks to listen to, we recommend starting with the fantastic podcast series on The Book of Exodus. You can access this and other talks in the LISTEN section, along with audio recordings of Exodus 1-15.

Finally, each section of the notes has a companion video to introduce it. Click WATCH to find these, or access them directly on YouTube. Look out for these 5 characters from Exodus who will give you something to think about in each video.

A Letter from the Speaker

Dear young people,

What does it take for us to see God at work in our own lives? How aware are we of His hand moving and shaping the nations and events around us? Have we considered our work, the role that we can play in furthering the will of the Heavenly Father? Are we prepared for what God has promised to those that love and fear Him, that call upon His name?

A study in the early chapters of Exodus forces us to ask these types of questions. This is one of the most fascinating and captivating stories in history. And contained within the incredible events are powerful exhortations. The story of the Exodus is a timeless message as we prepare for the greater type in our own discipleship: overcoming Egypt, stepping into roles within the work of the Truth, getting to know God, trusting in a future deliverance.

Contained within this incredible story is a call – a call to come out from Egypt and into the Promised Land, to leave behind slavery to a freedom only God could provide, a call away from the influences of the world and to pursue a God-centered life. We are encouraged to see ourselves in these chapters – as pilgrims before God, deciding this day who we will serve. Are our “loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand” (Exodus 12:11)? Are we prepared and excited for the call that we’ve been given? This study will provide us a wonderful opportunity to gauge our preparedness.

We have found the study of the early chapters of Exodus to be one that will strengthen our foundations, and solidify our belief that God has a deliberate plan. We will study together a section of chapters that  causes us to self-reflect, to assess the challenges we face in our walk, to work through the dangers of being in this world while called out to be sons and daughters of God. Throughout this study, we will see an importance placed on the power of the Almighty, a focus on what God can accomplish – “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day” (Exodus 14:13).

We encourage you to give this study the time and energy needed. Let us take the time to stand in wonder, to approach the bush with Moses, to walk through the court of Pharoah in confidence as we witness the power of God, to sit in the homes with the children of Israel as they await the angel to pass over.

If our Lord remains away, may God guide you in your studies and bless your work to yield fruit unto eternal life. We look forward to spending the 2023 Adelaide Youth Conference with you, God willing.

In our shared hope,
