Thought for the Week
Just as this Psalm was significant to the Jews as they made their way to the city of Jerusalem, there is significance for us today as we look forward to the day of eternal joy when we will go up to the house of the LORD. David expresses such joy in going to the house of the LORD, coming into the presence of God. As the Jews entered into the presence of God, they looked forward to a time of rejoicing when God’s presence would be all in all.
I think this Psalm is particularly relevant to the conference as it is events like this that give us a glimpse into what life will be like in God’s Kingdom. There will come a time of rejoicing which we have never experienced, a time when the City of Jerusalem will once again be the central focal point. So, let’s take up the refrain of this Psalm and pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Pray for strength to continue to this day and look forward with hope to the everlasting day of eternal joy that lies in store for us.
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem”
WEEKLY READING
Psalm 122
1 I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord!”
2 Our feet have been standing
within your gates, O Jerusalem!
3 Jerusalem—built as a city
that is bound firmly together,
4 to which the tribes go up,
the tribes of the Lord,
as was decreed for Israel,
to give thanks to the name of the Lord.
5 There thrones for judgment were set,
the thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
“May they be secure who love you!
7 Peace be within your walls
and security within your towers!”
8 For my brothers and companions’ sake
I will say, “Peace be within you!”
9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
I will seek your good.
